What did you know about CrossFit before coming here?
Not much! My aunt and uncle have been doing Crossfit for years and haven’t stopped since they started. That’s the only time Crossfit has come up in conversation in the past.
How did you find out about CrossFit and why did you start?
One Sunday, my boyfriend, Terrance, showed me a video of Women who were doing Crossfit. As I was watching the video, I first felt that he was trying to motivate me to get in the gym, but as I kept watching it, something clicked and I thought to myself ” I want to do that”. After the video, I immediately googled “closest crossfit” and Pivot Point popped up. To my surprise, it was 3 minutes away. I told Terrance I wanted to go visit and so we drove there. When We pulled up I saw Jody, spoke with her, told her how nervous and scared I was. She told me to just try it out. So, Terrance and I did, that same Tuesday.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness?
Before Crossfit, I was so negative. I complained all the time about work, having no friends, and life in general. It helped me become a more positive person. I enjoy my job so much more. It gave me a confidence about myself that I haven’t had in years.
Crossfit provided another activity for me and Terrance to do together. It gave our relationship a boost, which we needed. As for my level of fitness, I am doing movements, workouts and training that I’ve never done in my life. It’s pushed me physically and mentally. I’m already addicted:-)
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I’ve been doing Crossfit since mid Februay 2015.
What is your favorite movement?
My favorite movements are push-ups! Before Crossfit, I couldn’t do 5 without stopping and I hattttteeddd doing them. Now, I feel like it’s my best movement. I know I’m getting stronger.
Is there a workout or movement you would like to see more of?
I would like to do more lunges with weight.
What are your goals for this year, and have you accomplished any goals already?
My goal is to participate in just one Crosssfit game or event this year. And YES! I didn’t give up Crossfit after my surgery in March 2015. I was so scared I wouldn’t have the energy or motivation to get back to the Box. Terrance, my Crossfit family and my will power, all helped me to get back into the box. All of this helped me to recover even faster than what I thought I would.
I wouldn’t describe it as an achievement but I would say that during the “Whitten” Hero WOD, I got hot. I decided to remove my shirt and just work out in my sports bra and workout pants. I know this may be TMI but in no gym have I ever had the confidence or strength to do that. I just thought to myself, “what the heck, who cares, I’m proud” and showed my tummy. It was liberating!! I felt empowered! One of the best feelings I’ve felt about myself ever! You couldn’t tell me nothing 🙂
What do you like most about Pivot Point CrossFit?
I love how accessible the Coaches are. They make you feel comfortable to ask questions. They always have the time to show you how to do a movement correctly or show you how to stretch properly. You don’t always get the extra attention from a regular gym.
What encouragement or advice would you give to new people coming in?
I would tell the new member to just stick it out. Don’t worry about what you can’t do, just do what you can.
Also, just go at your pace. All movements are scaled. No one expects you to know everything or be the strongest. Just don’t stop.
What are some of your hobbies?
Besides Crossfit, I enjoy going to Garage Sales, fixing up my house, spending QT with Terrance and hanging with my girl Mary Beth!
