What did you know about CrossFit before coming here?
I knew how much I enjoyed the workouts and how challenging mentally and physically most of the WODs can be. I never really had a box to call home before so I never got to experience the community that CrossFit is famous for.
How did you find out about CrossFit and why did you start?
About four years ago, my buddy decided that we needed to change our workout regime, instead of spending countless hours in the gym… We researched some HIIT training and then found some CrossFit videos of Rich Froning and Dan Bailey and decided “we can do that!”. So, we decided to test the waters with “Murph”. Have never been the same since.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness?
It really has helped me with the day to day activities and made working out a lot more fun when you are competing against others and yourself. My awareness of my own body has increased so much it’s great to know how to move my body how I want it to.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
For the past three years but only actively doing CrossFit for about little over a year. Had to take 18 months off for two back surgeries.
What is your favorite movement?
Is there a workout or movement you would like to see more of?
I would like to see more gymnastic movements be integrated somehow. I suck at these movements so I would like to get better at these.
What are your goals for this year, and have you accomplished any goals already?
To be able to do muscle ups consecutively. Plus hand stand walks.. Those always get me. But always my goals are to keep lifting heavier and heavier weights, faster and more efficiently on all OLY lifts.
The moment I was able string 50 consecutive double unders the first time. It was such an awesome moment! I had been so frustrated trying to do them, when suddenly all the cues that I had been repeating in my head and practicing came together.
What do you like most about Pivot Point CrossFit?
The atmosphere and coaching.
What encouragement or advice would you give to new people coming in?
Don’t be ashamed of where you start from! Form is the most important thing. If you need to drop the weight then do it! Don’t let your pride cause an injury. Trust me I know.
What are some of your hobbies?
I love to snowboard, hike, fish, eat, cook and explore!
To Jody, never letting me sand bag a workout and always pushing me to do more!
Jt, thanks for finding the most devious ways to mobilize! You seriously could be an interrogator just by mobilizing!
Joe – I will get those strict muscle ups!!!
