Evita Burks.

What did you know about CrossFit before coming here?

It consisted of body weight exercises and lifting heavy. I was told by some people that athletes are know to get knee injuries from doing Crossfit. .

How did you find out about CrossFit and why did you start?

I attended the YMCA and my personal trainer told me that she had a good friend that was opening up a Crossfit gym in Suffolk and she described the area to me. I decided to come check it out.

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness?

I learned that Crossfit is not unique to any one type of person, body shape, of physical condition. Crossfit has changed my way of thinking in respect of challenging myself to go beyond my limits. Crossfit allows me to set goals of accomplishing physical movements I only dreamed of.

What are your goals for this year, and have you accomplished any goals already?

No I haven’t accomplished my goals however I am well on my way. I would like to lose weight and gain muscle. A lot of muscle!!

Describe your biggest milestone, achievement or “A-ha” moment?

My biggest milestone achievement is the thought of “I can do it”. I can really do this, I don’t have to be skinny, or muscular to do these movements. I may not be able to jump right into the exercise movement at first but with my own will power, consistency, and the help of the coaches. I’m okay with that, because I know I will be able to master that exercise soon.

What do you like most about Pivot Point CrossFit?

I really enjoy, whole heartedly the people and the environment that Pivot Point has established. The coaches identifies that each athlete has specific goals they are working to achieve. Pivot Point has an environment that influences mental positivity through encouragement and physical growth by safely demonstrating every exercise movement. This is redundant, but they really take their time and they even show you how to scale a exercise to your meet your physical ability. Scaling the exercise does not take away from the effort or results you will achieve.

What encouragement or advice would you give to new people coming in?

Pivot Point really cares about safe movement of all exercises. They really don’t want someone to get injured by doing an exercise incorrectly. There are many rumors out there about Crossfit. I wanted to still do it and make my own opinion. I’m glad I did this has been a great experience.

What are some of your hobbies?

I like to run and watch movies.

Shout-Outs?

S/O to Charles Hastings for taking time with me. You have taught me so much about the importance of proper form when performing an exercise movement.

JT (aka SUPERMAN) Thank you for your motivation with showing every athlete they can achieve fitness at any level they want to if they put their mind to it.

Josiah Thanks you for putting Crossfit into perspective, in that allowed me to make a comparison between life and Crossfit. Crossfit has changed my life in so many different ways. I’m not sure why, but now I feel it was important for us to have that conversation .
